Overview:

Increasingly knowledge is recognised as the key differentiator in global organisations. Initiatives such as the well reputed MAKE (Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise) index pay tribute to the important role that knowledge has in the lifecycle of any modern-day corporation. With this recognition comes the need to realise and capitalise on the “knowledge resources” of the organisation. This is the function of knowledge management (KM) which, if effectively incorporated and aligned to business strategy, is able to enhance strategic advantage.

Knowledge management is a multidisciplinary, continuous and dynamic process for supporting knowledge workers in the organisation. Many organisations are struggling with the concept of knowledge management and may recognise the need to act but do not know where to begin.

At Monash Professional we have designed a portfolio of courses targeted specifically towards providing the necessary skills and techniques required to undertake knowledge management in your organisation. The content of our courses is based on leading edge research undertaken by our state of the art Knowledge Management Research Program (KMRP) at the Caulfield campus of Monash University. This presents our course attendees with a unique opportunity to access the latest information in this rapidly developing discipline.

Advanced level course

In the globalised, contemporary business environment, marked by continuous change, organisations have no time to rework or 're-invent the wheel'. Knowledge from past initiatives must be made available for future work functions through creative knowledge management strategies.

Knowledge workers are the collaborative members that work together to produce business outcomes. During their work, they inherently create, use and reuse knowledge which becomes deeply embedded in their practice. KM in this context is employed to support the activities of knowledge workers and those working in similar roles in future and further, to avail knowledge in practice.

With a good understanding of the basic concepts of knowledge management and systems from previous modules, in this advanced unit we look at the mechanisms for learning in the workplace and developing a memory for the organisation are explored. Case studies around organisational change including mergers and acquisitions provide for an exciting and challenging background for the course.

This course is delivered through a combination of instructor presentation as well as facilitated group discussion, practical exercises and group case study exercises. Emphasis is on utilising an open and peer based learning environment.
